We are born and we die. In between, you live whatever life you are capable of.
You constantly face choices of right and wrong. The sum of your upbringing, experience, and willpower influence these choices. Perhaps there is a component out of your control that is determined before you were conscious, but I am in no way sure of that.
Even a seemingly passive tree growing in the forest takes nutrients, water, sunlight, and space away from other lifeforms for it's own use. By living and thriving a tree fights and destroys other life.
Our creator gave us intelligence, creativity, ambition, and curiosity. It would be a shame not to honor these gifts.
